Db2 is a family of data management products, including database servers , developed by IBM.

They initially supported the relational model , but were extended to support object-relational features and non-relational structures like JSON and XML. Historically, and unlike other database vendors, IBM produced a platform-specific Db2 product for each of its major operating systems. As a result, they use different drivers. DB2 traces its roots back to the beginning of the s when Edgar F. Codd , a researcher working for IBM, described the theory of relational databases, and in June published the model for data manipulation. In , IBM released Query by Example for the VM platform where the table-oriented front-end produced a linear-syntax language that drove transactions to its relational database.

This process occurred through the s. Eventually, IBM took the decision to completely rewrite the software. This edition allowed scalability by providing a shared-nothing architecture , in which a single large database is partitioned across multiple DB2 servers that communicate over a high-speed interconnect. DB2 9. DB2 pureScale provides a fault-tolerant architecture and shared-disk storage. A DB2 pureScale system can grow to database servers, and provides continuous availability and automatic load balancing. It provides journaling, triggers and other features.

DB2 It added AI functionality to improve query performance as well as capabilities to facilitate AI application development. Db2 Db2 embraces a "hybrid data" strategy to unify and simplify the entire ecosystem of data management, integration and analytical engines for both on-premises and cloud environments to gain value from typically siloed data sources.

The strategy allows access, sharing and analyzing all types of data - structured, semi-structured or unstructured - wherever it's stored or deployed. Db2 Database is a relational database that delivers advanced data management and analytics capabilities for transactional workloads. This operational database is designed to deliver high performance, actionable insights, data availability and reliability, and it is supported across Linux, Unix and Windows operating systems.

Traditional transaction processing databases were not able to provide the insight business leaders needed to make data-informed decisions. A new approach was needed to aggregate and analyze data from multiple transactional sources to deliver new insights, uncover patterns and find hidden relationships among the data. Db2 Warehouse, with capabilities to normalize data from multiple sources, performs sophisticated analytic and statistical modeling, provides businesses these features at speed and scale.

Increases in computational power resulted in an explosion of data inside businesses generally and data warehouses specifically. As both the volume and variety of data grew, Db2 Warehouse adapted as well.

The pureQuery properties must be specified when your application creates java. Connection objects. If they are not, the application uses standard JDBC functionality. Refer to the IBM Optim pureQuery Runtime documentation for a complete list of the pureQuery properties, along with information about their use. You tell pureQuery to capture SQL statements by setting certain properties in the pureQuery properties. Therefore, if an application prepares a statement without executing it, or if an application attempts to execute an SQL statement but the execution fails, pureQuery will not capture that statement.

If you want pureQuery to capture all of the SQL statements that your application executes, clearly your application needs to successfully execute all of the statements while you are performing the capture. Usually, the easiest way to do this is to direct pureQuery to capture during the execution of the tests of your application. You can even capture during static execution, if you set the pureQuery properties correctly. If you capture SQL statements to create a pureQueryXml file, and then you modify your application, IBM recommends that you delete your pureQueryXml file and capture again to replace it.

Otherwise, your pureQueryXml file can become bloated with information about SQL statements that your application no-longer executes, as well as inaccurate information about which parts of your application execute certain SQL statements. Four properties are particularly important in determining whether pureQuery captures.

ON directs pureQuery to capture. The default value is OFF. The extension of the file must be either. If the file specified by this property already exists, pureQuery simply adds new statements to this file. The tool helps to manage pureQueryXml files in that folder. However, their values can prevent pureQuery from capturing. When you are capturing SQL statements for an application, the property pdq. If the property pdq. You can use several other pureQuery properties to control the capture behavior. These include pdq. Chapter 4 describes this application. The class hrm. Locate this class. We will perform capture on this application.

Locate the test application test. Open the test file and verify that it imports the class hrm. Then, you are ready to capture.
